Translation Agreement 

  • Translations need to be done by teams of at least two people. 
  • All members need to be fully fluent in both languages involved in the translation. You may also involve others as clarity readers and editors.
  • At least one member experienced working with children under age 5 (teacher, mental health professional, children's book author. . . ).
  • At least one member should be experienced in conducting translations from English to the language of the translation.
  • If the language has multiple dialects or significant regional differences, involve members familiar with those variations.
  • RATIONALE: Allows for verification of translation 
  • Copyright and ownership for all translated versions remains with Chandra Ghosh Ippen and Piplo Productions.
  • All members of the translation/adaptation teams agree that free PDF version of the book will  be posted on PiploProductions.com and NCTSN.org. The translation teams may also make arrangements for free PDF versions to be on their websites.
  • Members of the translation teams do not have the rights to sell the book or profit from its distribution, but they can make copies for free (or paid for by a foundation) and distribute them freely.
  • Unless agreed upon in writing at the outset of the project, translation teams understand that translation work done is pro bono and is not paid for by Piplo Productions. It is possible that translators may be paid by other sources (e.g. grants or foundations paying for specific language versions)
  • Should we learn of any challenges with the translation, we reserve the right to involve in the translation process, which may affect the order of names listed as members of the translation/adaptation team.
  • We can provide translation teams with files editable using Adobe Photoshop. If you do not have the capacity to use Photoshop, we will need to make arrangements to have one of our team members or a volunteer edit the file. This must be done as part of the translation agreement, so we can allocate our time.
  • We expect that the name of the book may change. Please consider using "Trinka" in the title. It is a made-up name designed to make the book easier to find when you search on the web for the book. If you use two common names in your language, it makes the book hard to find.

Process for Conducting a Translation

    Ensure that you meet the conditions and agree with the translation agreement written above.
  2. 2
    Make sure that there is a real need for this language version. Connect with other groups to ensure there is a dissemination plan involving organizations in that country or connected to that cultural group.

    If you would like to translate the book as a member of a translation team, please READ THIS PAGE AND complete the survey at the bottom of this page.

    Wait to hear from us. In general we prefer to work either with people we know or with teams connected to an established organization. Your request needs to be approved by Chandra Ghosh Ippen , and while we appreciate your desire to support this effort, we may not be able to track and approve all requests as we want to ensure that we can complete those that we commit to. We also do this all pro bono in our spare time.

    English PDF files are downloadable from: https://piploproductions.com/trinka-and-sam-virus/. We will also provide you with translation files if your team is approved for translation including Google sheets to assist with line by line translation (use this when we are formatting the books for you) and Adobe Photoshop versions if you have the capacity to format the book yourselves (this is preferable for us).

     Translation team members complete the translation jointly reviewing each others work. All team members names are included in the inside of the book as members of the Translation/adapation team for that language version.

    Holds consensus calls or emails regarding any proposed changes if needed with Chandra Ghosh Ippen (1-2 hours)

    Note: Changes to the text are permissible to make them more appropriate for the cultural context or to help the language flow better for a  children, but those changes need to be approved by Chandra Ghosh Ippen either via email or during the consensus call.
